If you are killed in action, all is not lost.

As a baseline you get 50% of your experience instead of late creation experience as catchup experience. Unless, late creation would be *more* for you. You also get to keep your clout if you wish or go with five.

If you are killed in a mission or assault you receive 75% instead, as well as any experience you got during the incident is added directly to your experience pool instead of added as catchup experience.

Finally, if you are killed in the course of a mission, a GM at their discretion only may give other rewards (Gaining a Unique Point Early, Retaining Rank,ETC) It however is at the GM's discretion, its not something given out to you just because you feel you deserve it.
